Kananaskis Trail Building Workshop, May 2nd-May10th

by Kevin Dyck
The Canmore Nordic Centre is hosting a week-long workshop on trail building, maintenance, and the future of trails in the Canmore Nordic Centre, including two proposed downhill trails.

While the Nordic Centre has long been a fantastic cross country venue, this workshop promises to have a significant downhill component. Of particular interest to downhill riders will be May 10th when a discussion on two proposed downhill trails takes place. This could add two more SANCTIONED downhill trails to the Nordic Centre, bringing the total up to a whopping 4 (that's right, Riders of Rohan and The Reclaimer are part of the Nordic Centre). It also opens up the possibility to host local races, as well as the opportunity for the many talented DH/Freeride trail builders in the Bow Valley to have their voices heard and their talents put towards trails that won't get closed!

Regardless of the style of riding you enjoy, this workshop should give you some great knowledge and insight into building sustainable, functional trails.

Come out and support your sport!

Right on. I think IMBA is behind it so hopefully it'll be fairly productive. I have to work through most of it but will hit up the 10th when they talk about the new DH trails. Of course if it keeps snowing I might go skiing instead...

I plan on attending some of these sessions. I called the Nordic Center and was told to just show up. No registration. mtnmanjake - did you get a different story about registering? I encourage everbody that can to come out and learn from IMBA about building trails right.
